Designed for horses that prefer a quieter, more stable mouthpiece with minimal articulation, it provides a continuous surface across the mouth while allowing the rider to introduce curb and leverage influence when required.

The Mullen mouthpiece contains no central joints, removing the independent movement and collapse associated with jointed designs. Instead, it provides a continuous, stable feel across the mouth. This can be particularly valuable for horses that become unsettled by excessive movement, dislike the changing feel of articulated mouthpieces or simply demonstrate a preference for a quieter, more consistent connection.

As part of the Aster Cushion range, the Mullen mouthpiece is covered in supple leather to create a softer interface between the bit and the horse’s mouth. The combination of a joint-free profile and leather covering creates a very different feel from a conventional metal jointed mouthpiece, making it a useful option for horses whose preferences indicate that stability and surface softness are particularly important.

The Baby Pelham introduces curb, leverage and poll influence. As the relevant rein is engaged, the leverage brings the curb into action beneath the jaw, distributing the rider’s aid beyond the mouth rather than relying solely on increased mouthpiece pressure. The stable Mullen profile remains consistent as this additional action is introduced.

This combination is intended for horses that already understand the basic contact and benefit from a stable mouthpiece but require greater influence or adjustability from the cheek. It can be particularly useful where the rider wants access to additional control without introducing greater articulation within the mouth itself.

MAY PARTICULARLY SUIT HORSES THAT:

• Prefer a joint-free Mullen mouthpiece.
• Become unsettled by excessive mouthpiece movement or articulation.
• Benefit from a quiet, stable and consistent feel within the mouth.
• Show a preference for a leather-covered mouthpiece.
• Benefit from a softer, cushioned interface over the tongue and surrounding structures.
• Already understand the basic contact and are ready for curb influence.
• Require additional rider influence beyond a straightforward snaffle action.
• Become stronger when jumping, during faster work or in more exciting environments.
• Benefit from the rein aid being distributed beyond the mouth through the Pelham action.
• Need additional control while retaining a stable, uncomplicated mouthpiece.

DESIGN FEATURES:

• Part of the Aster Cushion leather-covered range.
• Smooth, joint-free Mullen mouthpiece.
• Continuous mouthpiece profile provides a stable, consistent feel.
• No central joint or lozenge.
• Supple leather covering creates a softer, cushioned interface.
• Compact Baby Pelham cheek.
• Introduces leverage, curb and poll influence.
• Curb action allows the rein aid to be distributed beneath the jaw as well as through the mouth.
• Stable Mullen profile remains consistent as the cheek action is engaged.
• Designed for horses that prefer minimal mouthpiece articulation.
• Leather covering requires appropriate care and regular inspection.
• Combines a soft, stable mouthpiece with greater adjustability and influence from the Pelham cheek.
